In Associate Rules
Revised May 2020 Guidance for Associates Three years after Amici Coro elected to open its singing events to a new category of member, namely that of the Associate, a review by the Committee has established the success of this venture and confirmed its continuation, with one small but important change. This change gives the Director of Music the ability to prevent a situation where an imbalance of parts could affect the overall quality of the ensemble at an event. It should be stressed that such a situation has not yet arisen, but the Committee has decided to make this change now to avoid a future problem. The following table has been prepared to explain the requirements of Associates and compares these to those for full members. Bold text is used to highlight the changes introduced in May 2020. Full members include the three categories of member, student member and honorary life member. Students are those in unpaid full time education; whilst honorary life members are elected by committee. The reason we can offer associate membership is because of our new flexibility in relation to attendance at Tuesday rehearsals, of which there are normally three before an event. We can now extend our membership to competent singers who are unable to attend these regular rehearsals, either by virtue of work/social commitments or because of where they live. Whilst we are extending our singing ranks, we do not wish to see any reduction in our standard of performance and to this end there will be a need for Associates to demonstrate their abilities, either by suitable singing reference, by audition or a combination of the two. Associates must then arrive at an event “note ready”, having learned the scores for the proposed music. All current members are expected to remain as full members unless their circumstances substantially change. Comparison Table Requirements Full Members Associates Musicianship No new or additional requirements.
